bf-SDE Installation on Asterfusion devices

Dear Asterfusion Support Team,

We are currently working with an Asterfusion X732Q-T (Tofino 2) switch and would like to set up the device for developing our own P4 applications. We have access to the Intel-provided SDE and are familiar with installing it on Ubuntu 20.04 for other vendor platforms (e.g., Edgecore). However, we are encountering difficulties when following a similar process on the Asterfusion device.

The switch arrived with AsterNOS pre-installed (which appears to be based on Debian 9). Following recommendations from various community discussions, we installed a stock Ubuntu 20.04 and also tried Ubuntu 22.04. While we were able to install the SDE ( Ubuntu 22.04 required some kernel version adjustments), we have not been able to successfully build the Asterfusion BSP.

We have reviewed and attempted to build the open-source BSP available in the open-source repository (
https://github.com/asterfusion/bf-bsp-lts), but have run into dependency issues during compilation.

We have not been able to locate vendor documentation that describes the recommended OS, the proper installation procedure, or any platform-specific requirements for integrating the SDE with your BSP.

Could you please provide guidance on:

  1. The supported or recommended operating system and kernel version for SDE + BSP installation on the X732Q-T

  2. The correct procedure for building the Asterfusion BSP after installing the Intel SDE

  3. Any additional steps, dependencies, or considerations specific to the Tofino 2 platform

We would greatly appreciate any documentation or technical notes that could help us set up the device properly.

Thank you in advance for your support. We look forward to your guidance.

Kind regards,
Fabian
